Guest writing for us today is my awesome wife, Ali (yay)!
If you’ve been getting down with the constant cloudy days we’ve had here in St. Louis lately, then take a look at this beautiful couple! We had a gorgeous Fall day during their urban shoot, and I’m not sure why our Engagement shoots always tend to turn into adventures, but they do! We got to know Casey and Dan a little better while they were hanging with us, Beckett, and our fur babies during the time I was doing Casey’s makeup (like my plug for myself here, haha!). Once they were dressed and ready for the camera, we all headed downtown to the alleyways around Lafayette Square.
Casey and Dan are such friendly people, it made their shoot feel more like a hang-out with friends rather than work. They were willing to try anything, which included Casey trekking around cobblestone streets and gravel spaces in high heels (ladies, I know you know how difficult that can be!). And why is it most people do not understand what an “engagement shoot” is?! We encountered one gentleman whose garage doors we were shooting in front of, and he was really concerned with what we were doing, lol! Like two really well dressed people, obviously in love, are up to no good (and this was during a more calm time in Ferguson!). He eventually gave us permission (do we need that to shoot in a public street?) to use his garage doors as a backdrop, after we spent a little time explaining to him what our shoot was all about. Thank you Mr. Green Garage Door Guy! ;0)
After an outfit change, and with the “golden hour” upon us, we were off to finish the shoot with a bang. Having already had the encounter with the garage door man, we were a little more skeptical of people and their reactions to us. We even got a little nervous when a police officer drove by and stopped to talk to us, but he only offered to be in our shots with us, haha! And being in alleyways, albeit VERY nice alleyways, after dark lends to heightened senses…especially after we all thought we saw a giant rat, yikes! But none of it really phased Casey and Dan, as they continued to bring their game faces for the rest of the shoot!
Thanks for being such great troopers guys! We had a great time on our “adventure” of a shoot with you both, and cannot wait to be a part of your wedding day next May!
