Out of all the weddings I’ve done, this one will ALWAYS stand out for me. Lemme explain…
Back in March 2013, Natalie and John signed me to be their photographer. Other than booking weddings months in advance, Ali and I don’t really plan much else (other than anniversaries and birthdays of course). We definitely did not plan to have a baby around the same time as Natalie and John’s wedding day. Our doctor told us that our due date was February 3rd which meant there was a possibility that Baby Lee could arrive on February 1st which was Natalie + John’s wedding date. I started to take an informal poll among friends and family to see if babies tend to come earlier or later than their due date… especially when it’s your first one. Most people will tell you that they come later than earlier… but it’s a crap shoot. Either way, I made sure to give Natalie and John a call to ensure them that I had a game plan prepared just in case Baby Lee decided to come earlier than expected. Being the super classy and understanding couple they are, Natalie and John were totally cool with the situation and were very supportive (sometimes your hear horror stories about crazy clients when they find out their photographer is pregnant).
The first part of my game plan… secure a kick ass second photographer in case I had to leave early… enters in Mrs. Amy Dale from Memphis, TN. One of my favorite Genesis Workshop peeps and also happens to be the first person who offered to come help out when she found out about the pregnancy. The second part of my game plan is to bring in another kick ass photographer to be an over glorified assistant but could switch if needed to back Amy up. That person was Mr. Jim Heine from the Philadelphia area (another Genesis Workshop peep). Avengers assemble!
Ok now with the team assembled, it was off to document the big day… which turned out to be a soggy day. Jim and I started off with meeting Natalie and her girls at the Hyatt Downtown St. Louis while Amy hung out with the boys as John got ready. Once it was time, we headed over to St. Michael The Archangel church to get hitched. We stopped over at the St. Louis Library before ending up at NEO on Locust where cocktails, food, family and friends were waiting. Now before I forget, I gotta give a shout out to Samantha (aka Sam) and the girls from White House Wedding Planning + Design who were with us from the start of the day to make sure everything went off without missing a step. If you need a wedding planner, I high recommend consider this crew. :)
So what happened? Did Baby Lee decided to stay inside so I could finish the wedding? Nope… he sure didn’t. I made it as far as the speeches/toasts before I got ‘the call’. From there, Plan B was in full effect. Amy and Jim finished off the last two hours of coverage like champs. It felt soooooooooooooooo good knowing that Natalie and John were in such good hands and I could leave without worrying about anything so I could focus on being there for Ali. Wow. Just wow. Ok, there is more to the whole Baby Lee arrival story but that’s another blog post… so stay tuned.
Natalie + John – THANK YOU for being so awesome and understanding. I was blown away how cool you guys were… I mean, I knew you were cool but you know what I mean. :) Congrats guys!
Amy + Jim – Seriously… I can’t thank you guys enough for pulling this off. Genesis power!
